Call first, then read the rest of this page

If something is burning, sparking, smoking or shocking people right now, stop reading and call 801-808-9942. Everything below matters, but not more than getting a human on the phone who does this for a living. An emergency electrician on the line beats any web page.

An electrical emergency is different from every other kind of home trouble. A leak spreads slowly and a furnace failure is uncomfortable. An arcing conductor inside a wall cavity has no such patience. Heat builds, insulation fails, and a small electrical problem becomes an electrical fire in the time it takes to decide whether to bother anyone about it. Our answer is simple. Bother us. That call is free and we would rather talk you through a false alarm than get called after the fire department.

Silver Star Electric has answered these calls across Utah County since 2008. We are a local electrical contractor with our own trucks and our own people, so the person who picks up knows the valley, knows the housing stock, and can be moving toward you instead of routing your emergency to whoever bids lowest on the lead. Every emergency service call we run is staffed by our own skilled electricians rather than a subcontractor pool.

What counts as a real electrical emergency

Call immediately, do not wait for morning

  • Any burning smell, smoke or visible arcing at an outlet, switch, fixture or panel
  • Scorch marks, melted plastic or a cover plate too hot to touch
  • Anyone who felt a shock from a fixture, appliance or faucet, which means current is where it should never be
  • A downed or damaged service line, or a mast pulled loose from the house by wind or a falling limb
  • Water in contact with energized equipment, including a flooded basement with an active panel
  • Total power loss in one building while the neighbors still have lights, which points at your service rather than the utility
  • A breaker that trips instantly every time you reset it, meaning a live fault is still out there
  • Loss of power to medical equipment, a walk in cooler, a server room or livestock water

Urgent, and we will get to you fast, but the building is not on fire

  • Half the house dark with no smell or heat, usually an open neutral or a failed main lug
  • A dead circuit that feeds a furnace, well pump or sump pump in the middle of winter
  • An outdoor receptacle or a subpanel that took water and needs isolating before it dries out wrong
  • A commercial kitchen, salon or shop with one leg down and a business that cannot run

Not an emergency, and we will not charge you like one

  • One dead receptacle with no other symptoms
  • A single flickering fixture or a dimmer that buzzes
  • A tripped breaker that resets and holds
  • Anything cosmetic, planned or scheduled

That last list matters as much as the first. Plenty of outfits treat every call as an emergency because the rate is higher. We will tell you honestly when what you have is not an electrical emergency, and we will book your urgent electrical issue at a normal appointment and a normal price.

What to do in the ten minutes before we arrive

You are not expected to fix anything. You are trying to make the situation smaller. Safety first, diagnosis second.

Kill power at the source if you can reach it safely. Shut off the affected circuit, or the main breaker if you cannot identify which one. Stand to the side of the panel, use one hand, and do not touch the enclosure if it is wet, hot or making noise.

Do not reset a breaker that tripped violently. If it dropped with a bang, a flash or a smell, leave it off. Resetting into a live fault is how a bad night gets worse.

Get people and pets away from the area. Especially anywhere someone felt a shock or where water and electricity have met.

Leave the water alone. Never stand in it to reach a panel or a disconnect, and never assume a flooded circuit is dead because the lights are off.

Never run a generator into a wall receptacle. Backfeeding energizes the utility line outside and can kill a lineman working to restore your neighborhood. Portable units connect to loads directly, or through a proper transfer switch we can install later.

If there is fire, smoke or an active arc, get out and call 911 first. Then call us. We will meet the fire crew and handle the electrical repair once the scene is safe.

Residential emergency electrical repair in Pleasant Grove

Emergency repairs in homes

Most residential electrical issues that get us called out at odd hours fall into a handful of patterns, and the electrician who shows up carries the parts for all of them.

Dead or partial power

Half a house dark with the utility still up almost always means an open neutral, a failed main lug or a damaged service conductor. We test at the meter, the main and the branch to find where the path broke.

Overheated devices and fixtures

A receptacle that scorched itself, a can light that cooked its wiring, a bathroom fan that seized and melted. We remove the failed component, inspect the conductors on both sides, and repair back to sound copper.

Faulty wiring found the hard way

Nail strikes from a picture hanger, a rodent chewed run in a crawl space, or a splice buried in a wall by someone who never pulled a permit. Emergency electrical repairs on damaged wiring are half detective work and half careful repair.

Storm and outage aftermath

Utah County wind takes down limbs and service drops every year, and power outages are part of life here. A sudden power outage is often followed by surge damage to electrical components you do not notice until something will not restart.

Water intrusion

Sprinkler lines, water heaters, roof leaks and spring runoff all find panels and junction boxes. Energized equipment that got wet gets isolated, dried, evaluated and replaced where corrosion has already started.

Shock and tingle complaints

Someone feels a tingle from the dryer or the sink. That is a grounding or bonding failure and it is not a maintenance item. An electrical shock in a home is a warning you get once.

Emergency electrician service for businesses

Electrical problems in a business are never just an inconvenience. Downtime has a number attached, and we work like we know it.

Restaurants and commercial kitchens

A tripped hood circuit, a walk in cooler on a failing contactor, a dishwasher branch that keeps dropping during dinner service. We prioritize getting you through the shift, then come back for the permanent fix if the correct repair needs parts.

Retail and office

Lighting failures, a subpanel running hot, a UPS or server room circuit that dropped. We can isolate and restore the critical loads first while we sort the rest.

Shops, warehouses and light industrial

Three phase issues, motor starters, VFD faults, disconnects and feeder problems out along Geneva Road and the county's industrial corridors.

Property managers and HOAs

Common area lighting, gate operators, pump houses and units where a tenant reports a burning smell at nine at night. One number, documented electrical work, invoices that make sense.

Job sites and general contractors

Temporary power failures, damaged underground during excavation, and inspection corrections that have to clear before the crew comes back Monday.

We keep records of what we find on your building, so the second call is faster than the first and the pattern behind a repeat electrical failure becomes obvious.

How the call actually goes

Our emergency electrical service runs on the same standard as everything else we do.

You reach a person. They ask what you smell, what you hear, what is dark and what still has power. That triage tells us what to bring and how fast to move.

We coach you through immediate safety. Sometimes that is shutting a breaker. Sometimes it is leaving the building. You will know before you hang up.

We arrive with a stocked truck. Breakers, receptacles, connectors, lugs, wire and test gear, because a second trip in the middle of the night helps nobody.

We diagnose before we quote. Real electrical troubleshooting with meters and thermal readings, not a guess and a parts swap. You get the price before work begins, at night, on a weekend, every time.

We make it safe first, permanent second. If the correct repair needs a part nobody stocks at midnight, we isolate the hazard, restore what can be restored safely, and schedule the finish. We will always tell you which of the two you are getting.

We document it. What failed, why, what we did, and what we recommend next. If the underlying cause is an aging electrical system or a panel that is past its service life, you will hear it plainly from a professional electrician with no pressure attached.

Where the emergency usually leads

An emergency call is a symptom. An emergency repair buys you the night, and the fixes below are what keep the rest of your electrical system out of trouble for good.

  • Circuit breaker repair or replacement when the breaker itself has failed to protect its branch
  • Electrical panel installation when the enclosure is damaged, obsolete or too full to be safe
  • Rewiring the damaged section of a run, or a full circuit when the electrical wiring is past saving
  • Electrical outlet installation to add capacity where overload caused the failure in the first place
  • Grounding and bonding corrections, the safety item most often missed and what most shock complaints trace back to
  • Whole home surge protection after a hit, because the next one is not a question of if
  • Transfer switch and generator connections done correctly, so the next outage is boring

We are not an AC repair company, to be clear about it. But when the air conditioner is down because its disconnect, breaker or feeder failed, that side of it is ours and we will tell you quickly which trade you actually need.

Emergency service across all of Utah County

We are based at 320 N 600 W in Pleasant Grove, which sits close to the middle of everything we cover.

Pleasant Grove and the north bench

Our own city first, from the older grid near the library and the downtown blocks to the newer streets on the west side, plus American Fork, Lehi, Highland, Alpine, Cedar Hills and Lindon. Think everything from a century old house near Lehi's Main Street to a five year old build off Timpanogos Highway.

Provo, Orem and Vineyard

Student rentals near campus, the older neighborhoods on both sides of State Street, the commercial strips, and the new construction filling in along the lakeshore in Vineyard. High density means our calls here are often multi unit, and we are comfortable working with owners and managers.

South county

Springville, Mapleton, Spanish Fork, Salem, Payson, Santaquin, Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills. Longer drives, bigger lots, more outbuildings, and canyon wind that takes down service drops most winters.

West side

Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain, where the housing grew faster than anything else in the state and long feeder runs to detached garages and shops are the norm.

Rural and unincorporated

Genola, Goshen, Cedar Fort, Fairfield, and the pockets at Benjamin, Lake Shore, West Mountain, Spring Lake, Elberta and Birdseye, plus the Utah County side of Draper and the cabins toward Sundance. Well pumps, irrigation panels and equipment that has been outdoors a long time.

Wherever you are in the county, tell the person on the phone your cross streets. It changes the answer we give you about timing, and we would rather be accurate than optimistic.

Serving Pleasant Grove and all of Utah County

Why people call us when it matters

A licensed electrician answers, not a dispatcher

You talk to people who do this work, and the same crew that shows up at two in the afternoon is the one that shows up at two in the morning.

Local since 2008

Veteran owned, family founded, and headquartered here rather than routing Utah County calls through a national center.

The right credentials

Master electricians on staff, code compliant work, and permits pulled when the job requires them.

One number for everything

Emergency, repair, remodel and new construction, so your electrical needs stay with people who already know your building.

Straight pricing

You hear the number before we start, including after hours. Nobody likes a surprise invoice, least of all after a hard night.

Follow through

An electrical repair service is judged on what happens after the crisis. A temporary fix gets a scheduled permanent one, and we tell you the difference between the two instead of letting you assume.

Questions we get at midnight

How fast can a 24 hour emergency electrician actually get here

It depends on where you are and what else is active. Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Lindon and Orem are usually quickest from our shop. South county and the west side take longer. The person answering will give you a real window rather than a comfortable one.

Does emergency service cost more

After hours work carries a higher rate, which is standard across the trade. An urgent issue at nine at night and a live hazard at three in the morning are not the same call, and we will tell you which one you have. What is not standard is telling you the number up front, and that is what we do. If your situation can safely wait for regular hours, we will say so and save you the difference.

Should I call you or the power company

If your neighbors are dark too, it is the utility. If you are the only building without power, or the damage is on your side of the meter, it is us and you need an electrician rather than a utility crew. Not sure? Call and we will help you figure it out in about a minute.

The breaker keeps tripping, can I just leave it off

Usually yes, and that is often the safest choice overnight. Leave it off, keep the load unplugged, and let us find the fault properly in daylight rather than resetting into it repeatedly.

Do you handle commercial after hours

Yes. Restaurants, retail, offices, shops and property management, scheduled around your hours when it is planned and immediately when it is not.

What if it turns out to be nothing

Then you get an honest answer, a clean bill of health on your electrical system, and a good night's sleep. That happens regularly and it is a fine outcome.

If it feels wrong, it probably is. Call us.

Burning smell, sparks, heat, shocks, or a building that went dark for no reason you can explain. We treat every one of them as a safety call until the meter says otherwise. Silver Star Electric provides emergency electrical repair services for homes and businesses across Utah County, with licensed electricians who answer, diagnose and repair.
